The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
Any way you spell it, this Tony Award-winning musical comedy is one of the brightest and funniest shows to play on Broadway in the last several years. Where else could six young people struggling with puberty stand out and fit in at the same time? This momentous spelling championship pits the quirkiest collection of heroes against one another in the most unlikely of hit musicals. Overseen by grown-ups who barely managed to escape childhood themselves, these six charming contestants learn that winning isn't everything and that losing doesn't necessarily make you a loser. Oh, and you'll want to brush up on your spelling; because at each performance, four volunteers are selected from the audience to participate in this tuneful, offbeat and heartwarming show.

Aliens Among Us
Alien plants, also known as exotic or non-native plants, are species intentionally or accidentally introduced by human activity into a region in which they did not evolve. The most invasive of these alien plants have been identified as a serious threat to global diversity. Once established, these exotic weeds rapidly out-compete native species, reducing biodiversity and altering ecosystem structure, composition, and function and pose a serious threat to Michigan's wildlife. Attend this informative, outdoor, hands-on discussion to learn what you can do to identify and combat some of southwest Michigan's most invasive non-native plants. We will be discussing the identification, natural history, habitat preferences, negative impacts, and control measures of some of Michigan's worst alien invaders such as: autumn olive, spotted knapweed, multiflora rose, purple loosestrife, phragmites, garlic mustard, and Eurasian milfoil. Please come prepared to hike outdoors and take notes (hand-outs will be provided). Pre-registration is required as participants will be limited to ensure the quality of the program.
